An intimate, moving and unique place

Benefiting from the “Maisons des illustrious” label, the building, designed by Auguste Perret in the heart of the 14th arrondissement of Paris, houses the largest collection of sculptures by Chana Orloff, who lived and worked there from 1926 to 1968.

The Ateliers: a place conducive to the development of the work

The visit allows you to discover nearly 200 sculptures presented in the exhibition studio and the work studio and to appreciate the qualities of these spaces designed by Auguste Perret in 1926.

From 1926 until her death in 1968, Chana Orloff lived and worked at the Villa Seurat. She received her painter friends there: Soutine, Georges Kars, Lucy Krog, Moïse Kisling, Hermine David, Otto Rank, Anaïs Nin, Jakovlev, Foujita…, and her clients.

The house is preserved in its original atmosphere, despite the disappearance of furniture by Pierre Chareau and Francis Jourdain during the Second World War.

Very sober spaces bathed in light

On the ground floor, the exhibition studio is intended for the presentation of sculptures and the reception of Chana's clients. It's lit by a high glass window that occupies the entire width of the facade, open to the street. At the end, the work studio called by Chana the “travailloir”, favors volumes and the light coming from a glass roof.

It's in this studio that the artist creates his portraits and figures.

On the first floor, a gallery overlooks the two studio’s and allows the artist and his clients to contemplate the sculptures seen from above.

From the street it is easy to see the exhibition studio behind the large glass wall, while on the upper level the wall has only two small square-shaped windows that recall the intimacy of the apartment.
